I've lost all my rhythms and workflows, but at least I've found my interest in doing this again (only, oh, eight months later). One step at a time.

Other news, #004 is updated with color (but no shade yet), and I went to the Getty on Sunday! Here's the flickr photo set

Alright, it's early Wednesday morning and still not a post.

To give myself a break, I'm not updating this week. This will be a chance to catch up on coloring and get a head start on future comics.

And spend time with my husband who can finally spend time with me now that his crunch time is done with.

Yes siree. Six pages in two weeks. Such as they are.

I have good memories of drawing this page the first time around. I was hopped up on caffeine myself, so it cracks me up, but at the same time I realize how it might not be the high taste of humor to most folks.

I'm doing all my hard partying (read: guiltless video gaming) tonight so I can spend all weekend coloring and moving on to next week's updates. Reagan's coloring the last 6 pages of his Flight comic this weekend, too, so it should be good times of mutual colorizing.

PAINT ALL OVER THE PLACE!!

In no place in the world is it still Wednesday. In fact, in some places in the world it's already Friday.

Partially complete again. More words about work and progress and work progress. Molly-hair is something that will likely change a great deal over the course of the comic.

At least, for the sake of my sanity, there's an illusion of a day between now and next scheduled update.

Yeah, not much else to say. Art, with the occasional time out to attend to social concerns, consumes my life!

It's barely still Monday here.

Yes, I know linework is very difficult to read properly. It'll be colored, shaded, and reposted soon, hopefully within the week. I'll note said updates in future posts.

When I started working on this page (after some admitted goofing off when I should have been drawing), I did not realize exactly how long it was going to take to get the whole thing done. TONS of small detail work. Plus there were hours of fussing over the layout of Andrew's apartment.

As partial compensation for not having it colored on time, here is the sketch of Andrew's abode:

Most of my initial tablet sketches are that messy. Thank goodness for pencil-n-paper thumbnails!

Hope your week's getting off to a better start than mine is! Wednesday's comic may be similarly incomplete initially (putting me on webcomix probation) as I have made a promise to a friend (that I intend to stand by) which will keep me away from the drawing board much of tomorrow, but I still vow to post three updates this week and have them all polished by next week.

This is a really exciting period for me as I find myself improving in small ways with each page finished, and always learning new things. Also, I feel the art getting looser. Or I'm just getting tired and want to clean up tiny things less.

Also, I added an "About" page with some text about the project and the links to the blog posts where I first talked about it.

Three pages down, only 153 to go!

I'm so happy, I'm going to start printing these out and taping them up on my walls.

Posting a bit late for my usual goal post time (noon Pacific), but before the "after this point you lose a grade for each day that your paper is late". Or somesuch. :D

I'm still composing a little above my head, so until further notice consider the byline "Annie Rush (and Reagan helped)"

Trivia: What's on Andrew's shelf?

Some books I idealized the spines of, for some books I drew inspiration from my shelf. Others are simply spines of colors I hadn't used yet.

Playing interior decorator, choosing colors and designing furniture for the apartment, is fun, too.

Done. Or, more accurately, begun.

It'll take a while of steadily rolling on this before I'll be ready to pimp the website, and I'm not going to go out of my way to show this around until there are a few more pages up.

But if you're here and if you see this, huzzah for showing up for the beginning of something that could be very awesome.

Also, a big thank you to my man Reagan for helping me get this far with his encouragement and teaching me the basics of shading and fabric wrinkles!

Pieces of Eight is not exactly a "webcomic". True, it's on the internet, and it's published on a schedule, and the sequential nature of the art puts it in the comic medium, but most of those things are incidental.

In my mind Pieces of Eight is a book that happens to come out six pages a week, two pages each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It was written with this kind of release in mind, but it was also written with the pacing/progression of a book in mind, not a strip comic with a payout each update.

Pieces of Eight is not about pirates. The name was chosen because a) there are eight major players, b) one of them is a Magic 8 Ball, and c) anything else would give away more than I am willing to tell about the plot.
